The origin of the Brachetto grape is quite controversial.

The most accepted theory seems to be the one that see its origin on the Monferrato hills, even though Demaria and Leardi in their publication "Ampelografia della provincia di Alessandria" (1875), says that the piedmonts Brachetto, perfumed and aromatic, was originated in Nizza Marittima (today Nice-France).
